The child-adult ratio far exceeds maximum allowed. That puts these children in a dangerous position. There have been many occassions in the morning when there are more than 6-7 infants/toddlers to 1 adult. Max with an infant is 1:4 at any time. The afternoons are often more since the school kids come there after school. She boards 6 foster kids, 2 of which have their own kids which makes 8 in addition to the daycare business. My husband found one of the foster kids caring for my child a few times changing diapers, etc. I have witnessed the provider standing at the bottom of her driveway on a busy road with more than 7 kids (4 under the age of 3) waiting for the schoolbus with only the 1 adult. She admitted to me this happens daily when it doesn't rain. What happens when one of those kids runs into the street & a car comes? On another occassion, I was also told that a family member would watch the kids while the provider took a foster child to the doctor; this was after she wanted to bring all the morning children with her to downtown Reading. The name of the family member, clearance numbers were not provided, nor did i know if that person was experienced with childcare, especially with that many kids at once. She violated the minors confidentiality law. Gossiped quite a bit about the foster childrens' situations, parents, etc as well as other daycare kids. She had a few special needs foster children & referred to them as retarded. I was highly offended as that's not right. She became highly insulted & defensive whenever i asked questions. Having many small children in her home, she did not have the stairs to the 2nd floor gated off. This is a safety hazard. Her reasoning is that she "teaches" the kids not to go up & down the stairs. We all know there are times children, especially little ones, dont listen.
Having this said - i have reported the violations to the state out of concern for the children's safety & wellbeing.
From a concerned parent, i do not recommend this daycare.
