On June 10, 2014, My 20 month old son was repeatedly bitten by another child while under the supervision of 2 daycare workers while on the playground at this center.
He was ATTACKED MULTIPLE TIMES by this child within a half hour time span, yet NO ONE NOTICED. The biter left FIVE bite marks on his body, two of these bites were so deep that the skin was punctured and required medical attention.
NOBODY responsible for my son's safety at the daycare even knew this happened!
Because he was unusually upset and behaved oddly after pickup that day, I decided to review that day's webcam footage which was available to me online.
To my horror, I discovered that my son was not only bitten once during the initial contact at the top of the play structure on the playground, this child actually chased down my son TWO more times and bit him again each time. Neither caregiver was paying attention. Incredibly, the same child was able to bite and attack my son again 15 minutes later, when he was literally placed right next to the biter by one of the caregivers!
To add insult to injury (literally,) the Center's response to the negligence/ incident has been downright unprofessional, disappointing and dismissive.
1. a biting/ incident reports was never produced.
2. At a follow-up meeting on June 11th with the Center's Directors, I was informed that the biter, since he is on the older side within that age group and considerably larger and stronger than the rest, will be moved to another room starting THAT VERY DAY and my son will remain in the Toddler room upon his return that following Monday. I checked the webcam the same afternoon of our June 11th meeting and also again the following afternoon to verify. To my dismay, the biter was very much still running around on the same playground and in the same classroom displaying aggressive behavior towards other children! When questioned, the Director gave the reason that one of the caregivers usually in the Toddler's room is on vacation this week, meaning because they are short staffed, the biter was merged back into the group....
*Removing the child from the Toddler room was the Director's OWN proposed solution, yet never truly implemented. Why would you tell me that he was removed THAT DAY if he wasn't? And now whenever a teacher goes on vacation in the future while my son is in their care, he could potentially be put at risk again?! Excuse me, but nothing that led up to this point has inspired a lot of confidence in their ability to keep my son safe.
3. a formal written complaint was emailed to the Kiddie Academy HQ, and no reply!
One of their "defenses" is to claim that my son didn't even cry, and this is just insulting and a lie... Actually I'm positive he did in fact cry/ protest/ whimper or otherwise alerted the caregivers that something was wrong (because, ummm I CAN SEE THE FOOTAGE!) He was crying when i picked him up 20 mins after the attacks, and continued to cry for another 20 minutes after we got home. That is how I realized something was wrong and I then took it upon myself to investigate. It's as if they are saying oh, he didn't cry so it must not have been that bad? Or, he didn't cry so they couldn't have known he was in distress? Are we blaming the victim now, a 20 month old baby??!!
Needless to say, I pulled my toddler out of that place and he never set foot inside that building again since his attack. We were lucky to find QUALITY care quickly.
Please spare yourself the heartache and your child the trauma. Kiddie Academy of Nesconset is NEGLIGENT, UNPROFESSIONAL, and offers SUB PAR CARE.
