My almost 3 year old attends Good Hands Daycare. The environment is warm, loving and has a very home-like feel. The owner, Laurie, is very knowledgeable. I was instantly impressed to learn that she has owned the school for so many years. The tuition is very reasonable, and she offers the most flexible hours in the area. I'm giving Good Hands 4 stars because the building and the toys could use some updating, but the care is unbeatable. My son is so happy there and he's learning so much! We'll be patrons of Good Hands until my son goes off to kindergarten!
Prior to an ownership change in 2011, this school was Tutor Time. My older son started in 2007 at 13 months old. We had a great experience at the school, and despite some issues with the owner, he was very well taken care of and learned a lot. After the school was sold, and changed to a Kiddie Academy, we were assured that our children would not be adversely affected and that tuition would not be raised. In the year following, I then had two children in the school, the school was going through building makeovers, staffing changes and administration changes. This absolutely adversely affected my children. I was ready to deal with the transition, but the changes were too much. My 2 year old had 3 teachers in less than 6 months. Unacceptable. The communication from the (3 different) directors was greatly lacking. The owners lack of experience showed in the food orders, the scheduling, and the staff turnover. The updates they made to the building were great, it's a great looking building, but I'd rather they spend their time and resources on upgrading the care of the children, not the light fixtures in the lobby. No one needs an automatic toilet seat. Our final straw was that our tuition was in fact raised over $250 per month in less than one year. The new owners did not keep their (verbal) promise and that's what sent us looking for a new school. The school and teachers interview very well, and look great, but that is not a reason to choose a childcare facility. Miss Mary in the baby room (if she's still there) is FANTASTIC. She took such great care of my son. Miss Amy in the school age room has a lot of experience and seemed to be a good recent addition to the staff. I think that the school has a lot of potential, but I was not willing to hang around while they figured it all out. That type of transition could have taken years, and I would not be willing to sacrifice my child's care to "wait and see".
