I just can’t say enough good things about Little Learners Home Day Care. My daughter attended the daycare from ages 2-6, and we only left because she started 1st grade (although she drops in to play on school vacation days). My daughter is currently in the top of her class in both math and reading and I feel that it is due in large part to Sara’s teachings. Originally, I had her in a traditional home daycare, which was really just a babysitting service with a toy room and a swing set. I was paying more than Sara charged and I had to supply my own food.
Sara helped me with toilet training; she has a specialized food program for meals and only served healthy snacks; and she encourages a balanced lifestyle of learning, playing, and resting. More importantly, however, she never had the TV on or did housework when the daycare was in session. Sara has a dedicated space in her home for the kids, and it is geared towards the kids learning from their play. I think that Sara’s philosophy of learning through play enriched my daughter’s critical thinking and problem solving skills. Every time I am at the daycare, there is a flurry of activity. Sara encourages special projects when the kids ask her questions about the world. She also has planned some educational fieldtrips and activities. When the weather is nice, the entire daycare moves outside, and her being on a dead end street made being outdoors like a giant playground. When my daughter was old enough to start learning basic skills, Sara had a school schedule with academics, science and exploration, and art. I really appreciated how Sara reinvented my daughter’s time at Little Learners as she matured. When she transitioned to public school, it was easy for my daughter to acclimate.
The thing I treasure most about my daughter’s time at Little Learners is the daily reports that I received. As a working mother, I was able to feel that I was a part of my daughter’s day through reading about what she did. I have kept each report in a binder, and it is a wonderful document of my daughter’s early years. Sara handwrites a unique report for each child every day. I would recommend Little Learners Home Day Care for any child. Sara is a gifted teacher and caregiver.
